Improve Classroom Assessment Techniques with an Online Learning Platform & Smartphone Application

Schiller, W.

This TEL demonstration will showcase how to use an interactive classroom assessment technique by using an online learning platform and smart phone application to better gauge the level of understanding among all students. Kahoot is an online game-based learning platform that can be used in several different educational formats. In this particular format, the online learning platform is used to obtain instant feedback from students regarding their understanding of course content. This type of instant feedback is useful to instructors, as it allows them to make changes to lectures, upcoming assignments, or formal assessments based on students’ understanding of content delivered. In addition, this type of TEL classroom assessment provides an opportunity for increased student engagement and peer-to-peer learning, since the “game” is interactive and live. During the Summit, participants will be able to download the app and participate in one of the many pre-developed “games” that simulate classroom assessments.
